Adoption Timeline

September 2011 – Decide to pray about timing of adoption plans and what those plans look like
September 30, 2011 – start blog for adoption
October 3, 2011 – adoption story, decision to pursue adoption from Costa Rica
October 21, 2011 – Begin fundraising AKA selling everything we don’t use much or can live without
December 14, 2011 – Sent in application to Lifeline Children’s Services (international adoption agency)
December 20, 2011 – Begin contracts, paperwork, etc for agency to start home study process
January 5(ish), 2012 – First face-to-face via Skype with our agency social worker
January 20, 2012 – completely tear out a room of the house and remodel right before 1st meeting with social worker! hahahahha
January 24, 2012 – first Spanish lesson at church
January 26, 2012 – First home study appointment with local office social worker and home visit
February 14, 2012 – Second home study appointment at the Lifeline Louisville office
March 19, 2012 – Third and final home study appointment at the Lifeline Louisville office
April 18, 2012 – Receive approved home study
April 25, 2012 – Begin Dossier phase with immigration application
May 2012 – Purchase Rosetta Stone, Latin American Spanish, online version, pray this helps
June 7, 2012 – appear in Louisville at appointed time and place for immigration fingerprinting
June 8/9/10, 2012 – Crossings training in Birmingham, EXCELLENT TRAINING BTW
June 13, 2012 – Micah has Psyche eval
June 18, 2012 – Sara has psyche eval
August 1, 2012 – Meet Costa Rican lawyer and PANI Representative in Costa Rica during short term mission trip
October 9, 2012 – Receive electronic copy of Psyche eval report, report heads to Costa Rica for translation
October 12, 2012 – fed ex new employment letters (b/c they were no longer 6 months current as required by Costa Rica after finally getting psyche eval report) to social worker
October 15, 2012 – originals for Dossier are sent to Costa Rica
October 26, 2012 – hear that our dossier was SUBMITTED TO COSTA RICA ON THE 18TH!!!

  1. these adopted children are truly loved and wanted. no doubt about that. such a long process. this long list of does, should show the children when they get older, that they was chosen, wanted, and loved. I AM READY TO SEE PICTURES OF THEIR FACES. I AM READY FOR YOU TO TELL THEM ABOUT ME. GRANNY WANTS THEM AND LOVES THEM TOO.


  2. Here’s something to take your mind off of the wait briefly (as in, about 20 seconds brief lol)…just found out that the current US ambassador to Costa Rica is from my hometown, and went to the school I hope to send my adopted child to, no less. Learn something new every day!
